Position Description: 

The Scrum Master is responsible for guiding 1-2 team(s) through the use of Agile/Scrum practices and values for the purpose of delivering quality solutions to the organization. This position will lead the release and project management function to improve processes. This person must effectively communicate with stakeholders, managers, peers and business partners on deliverables, timelines and the development of transition plan and success measures. Performs all prescribed scrum master duties including (but not limited to): removing impediments for the team, inspecting the team's performance through key team metrics and facilitating process improvement discussions to optimize the team's reliability, predictability and output.
This position is responsible for assisting in the delivery of software solutions by maintaining information metrics and making them transparent to management, by keeping the team focused on the right priorities, and ensuring the team is continuously improving. The unique skills required for effective performance in this job include product and release planning, stakeholder management, risk management, agile ceremony facilitation, and an understanding of a variety of software delivery methods and cloud development.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures the team follows standard agile processes while identifying opportunities for improvement. Facilitates team in defining Working Agreements, Definition of Ready, Definition of Done and then ensures those agreements are upheld.
  • Facilitates agile events: daily stand-up (scrum) meetings, retrospectives, demos, backlog grooming/refinement in partnership with the assigned Product Manager, backlog est./sizing, and sprint planning. Understands and uses a variety of techniques to continuously optimize events and team participation and engagement.
  • Identifies and helps to remove impediments, escalates impediments to the Product Manager, and can recommend ways to resolve impediments.
  • Helps team inspect and adapt process through retrospectives, data/metrics tracking and creating a safe, trusting environment.
  • Scrum Coaching of the team to drive higher levels of performance.
  • Assists with internal and external communication, and improving transparency by creating visible information radiators (burn-downs, velocity chart, etc), dashboards and demos. Provides metric reports to assist in product roadmap planning.
  • Facilitates getting all work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating any tasks directly to any team member. Facilitates discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
  • Support product planning by participating in release planning discussions. Supports during execution through understanding of priority and sequencing required to deliver efficiently. Guides team in commitment making and sprint completion.
  • Holds team accountable for delivery commitments and helps the team identify when commitments are at risk, and the determination of possible solutions
  • Be an Agile subject matter expert, providing strategic influence with the product / business and other engineering organizations.
  • Ensures the teams backlogs are always full (at minimum 3-4 sprints worth of work defined).

Qualifications



Required

  • 4+ years in IT or related business experience
  • 3+ years’ Experience in Agile methodology (Kanban, etc.) and toolsets (Atlassian suite, etc.)
  • Experience performing as Scrum Master for a software development team utilizing Cloud Development, Angular, CICD, and / or Hybris Platform
  • Experience managing operational or project financial budgets and leading project teams.
  • Experience developing project Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) / User Stories used to create project schedules and estimates.
  • Experience in project planning and coordination and working on projects or programs requiring the integration of cross-functional business solutions.
  • Experience using formal business process improvement methodologies.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field and 8 + years’ experience, including minimum of 5 + years managing projects/programs
  • Holds Scrum Master (SMC), Leading SAFe and / or Project Management Institute (PMI) certification.
  • Additional Project Management Certifications will be taken into consideration


Candidate Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to assess and re-design business processes to meet corporate objectives.
  • Ability to work well cross-functionally with a variety of people to accomplish goals and support others.
  • Knowledge / understanding of computer applications skills: MS Project, Power BI, Visio, Project Management tools, etc.
  • Thorough technical knowledge including modeling techniques, business acumen, technical and business requirements writing, systems thinking concepts and principles.
  • Practices servant-leadership and promotes learning in others by building relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and influencing and mentoring junior team members.
  • High level of business acumen and solving of complex problems
