Position Description:

The Safety team is therefore responsible for providing strategic direction and maintaining organizational focus creating a strong, positive safety culture that promotes a safe workplace with incident reduction and regulatory compliance.

The Safety department at ATD works closely with operations leaders of all levels to create and refine tools (e.g., training, templates) for continual performance improvement. We also manage interactions with regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, FMCSA) to provide site assessment support while ensuring effective site level systems implementation. Lastly, we provide training and support for advanced safety related management systems.

As a whole, the Safety team shepherds the company’s common overall objective of the prevention of injury and illness as well as continued improvement of safety and health performance where all associates have a responsibility to perform our jobs in a cautious and safe manner. Furthermore, we help to ensure our behaviors do not create an unsafe condition for fellow employees.

Primary responsibilities for this Transportation Compliance Manager will include: coordination of driver / fleet transportation-related compliance requirements; including applicable Federal and State regulatory requirements (FMCSA, DOT, 49 CFR, and others) and internal policies / support programs, supporting distribution center and truck / transportation related operations as well as partnering with organization leaders to drive continuous improvement.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee effective implementation of driver / fleet compliance management processes including, but not limited to:  driver qualification and recordkeeping, Fleetmatics / Telemetics, incentive program, HOS, ELD, drug / alcohol program and others
  • Partner with organization leaders to drive continuous improvement relating to risk reduction, incident reduction, cost reduction and regulatory compliance
  • Provide proactive oversight and create, revise, implement, and support transportation compliance policies, procedures and incident and cost reduction initiatives. Ensure company policies continually reflect current regulatory requirements and drive compliance throughout organization.
  • Perform data and program assessment reviews and develop / triage program initiatives to improve performance.  Perform internal policy and regulatory (local, state, and federal) compliance audits
  • Organize and present management information such as strategic planning initiatives, statistical performance, etc. to leadership
  • Create highly refined and effective corporate level work products such as procedures, training presentations, compliance assessments, tools, etc. for distribution to sites nationwide
  • Develop training / communication tools and other associated site training resources, and perform training activities to affected level of organization
  • Submit required regulatory filings within the appropriate deadlines

Qualifications:                                                                                                     

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced training relative to transportation compliance
  • In-depth knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, 49 CFR, and state regulations governing driver and fleet requirements
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience coordinating and implementing transportation compliance processes
  • Experience with distribution center / delivery type environment, electronic logging software and onboard telematics safety tools preferred
  • Maintain an effective balance of technical writing and creativity / communication to create highly refined work products for nationwide facility use / implementation
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Physical Demands/Travel Requirements:

  • Physical demands
    • Ability to sit, stand, walk for lengthy periods of time.
    • Ability to use a computer and peripherals (mouse, keypad, etc.) for lengthy periods
    • Ability to train / give instruction to large groups of people

  • Approximately 35% domestic and occasional international travel
  • Infrequent unscheduled/emergency travel as needed
