Position Description: 

We are looking for a leader for our newly formed team of industrial engineers, charting the course to drive performance improvement across our global operations. This team reports directly to the Senior Director of Operations Systems and is part of ATD’s Supply Chain team. The position is located in Huntersville, NC. This is a highly visible role working with leadership across the organization and will play a key role in our supply chain performance and productivity.

Responsibilities

The Manager of Industrial Engineering will be responsible for designing and leading the implementation of standard lean operating warehousing procedures through our 113 distribution centers, 4 mixing warehouses in the United States and 26 distribution centers in Canada, and across our last mile delivery fleet through the following activities:

  • Lead a team of newly formed industrial engineers to design engineered labor standards for warehousing and delivery activities
    • Support analysis of existing operations and develop standards
    • Scale the implementation across the network
    • Develop and lead training to support rollout and ongoing optimization
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives and ongoing updates of the engineered labor standards
    • Develop and implement governance model to audit and update standards
    • Identify opportunities to improve existing processes
    • Assess cost/benefit implications of potential process improvements
    • Collaborate with Continuous Improvement team to implement improvements
    • Ensure root cause analysis of performance and process variation across sites
    • Drive best practice sharing across distribution centers and mixing warehouses
  • Lead the implementation and sustainment of ATD’s labor incentive program
    • Propose changes to KPI and incentive (pay-for-performance) targets base on calibration activities
    • Support supply chain leadership with analysis during annual planning and budgeting processes

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Minimum 5+ years as an industrial engineer, process engineer, continuous improvement manager or related function
  • Experience leading a team of individual contributors
  • Experience using predetermined motion time systems (MTM, MODAPTS, MOST)
  • Experience driving lean improvements in warehousing and delivery
  • Demonstrated change management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written: able to communicate effectively with a broad audience
  • Strong analytical skills including experience analyzing large data sets with Excel

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or MBA
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification
  • Experience with labor management systems
  • Experience in a tire company or working in a distribution center

Additional details

  • Up to 50% travel-This job requires travel to our many distribution centers around the United States and Canada.
