Position Description: 

American Tire Distributors (ATD) is seeking an ambitious, energetic, experienced Senior Manager, Corporate Communications located in Huntersville, North Carolina.

  

The ideal candidate is a creative and strategic thinker with strong experience in developing and executing high-profile communication programs in multiple countries. As a senior manager of corporate communications, you will be responsible for the internal corporate communications strategies, planning & execution that promotes trust and transparency, keeps key stakeholders informed, celebrates and recognizes associates and helps build a positive brand image by owning the dissemination of information. 



This leader has an entrepreneurial mindset and is not afraid to roll up his/her sleeves when necessary. This role requires excellent communication skills, successful at collaborating in a matrix environment and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced culture. The Senior Manager, Internal Communications is a motivated self-starter who is able to proactively offer ideas and strategies with the ability to operate on a tactical, persistent, sustainable level. This role requires a high bar for creative design, writing, and high attention to detail to deliver high-quality programs and content for all stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work cross-functionally, lead proactive and reactive communications programs with tangible results.

Key Responsibilities:  

   

  • Establish the internal communications strategies and plans to proactively and continuously keep internal stakeholders informed about the ATD strategy, business initiatives and celebrates associates and the connected culture.  

  • Develop integrated communications plans that leverage ATD-owned channels, including social media, intranet, corporate meetings and email to communicate with staff internally.  

  • Manage the corporate meetings strategy, purpose, calendar and pre- and post-meeting communications. 

  • Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to associates and stakeholders.  

  • Plan, edit and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as a staff intranet, bi-annual magazine, organization announcements or regular email bulletin. You may also be required to work on the layout and design of content.  

  • Keep stakeholders/associates/leadership abreast of progress 

  • Create and deliver presentations for organizational events. 

  • Draft messages or scripts from senior executives for presentation to associates in written or spoken form. Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization.  

  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages.  

  • Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly.  

  • Handle the internal communication response to crisis situations which affect organizational perception and reputation.  

  • Advise leadership of developments throughout the organization, either face to face or through regular written communication.  

  • Drive the establishment of performance goals and providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and development to enhance performance and capability, to facilitate open communication, assigning special projects to advance individual capability and to encourage continuous performance improvement.

  • Writing skills: You need excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees  

  • Speaking skills: You also need strong speaking skills as you are likely to be called on to give presentations to staff. Internal communications managers need sensitivity to an organization’s goals and values and the ability to relay them to employees  

  • Interpersonal skills: You need good interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to work with communications and HR departments. You also need to possess the confidence to deal with senior executives and explain communication techniques to them.  

  • Creative skills: You need the creative ability to devise communication strategies  

  • Digital skills: Familiarity with information technology, especially digital and video means of communication, is essential.  

  • Analytic agility and critical thinking skills: Ability to be fast, responsive, and adaptable. Use data and information from various resources to inform strategic decision making.  

   

  Experience & Qualification: 

  • At least 3-5 years of experience with bachelor’s in public relations, communications, journalism, or similar experience.  

  • Previous working experience as an internal communications leader for a large organization preferred 

  • Writing for a variety of different audiences is also desired. General journalistic or marketing experience is beneficial.  

  • Experience in visual assets, content production, photo and video-editing skills is a plus.  

  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite; photo and video-editing software is an asset  

  • Experience and knowledge in copywriting, proofreading and editing.  

  • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities  

  • Proficient command in English language  

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, outstanding organizational and time-management skills 

  • Prior management of complex projects and advising senior managers is also looked upon favorably.
