Position Description: 

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for the overall architecture and management of the organization’s Public and Private cloud systems. The role is responsible to support and be involved in IT strategy, architectural planning, and implementation of integration activities. The Cloud Engineer will use their expertise in data and service-oriented architecture to develop cloud programs for efficient, effective, and secure use of internal and external cloud resources towards meeting organizational goals and objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver long-term strategic goals for data architecture vision and standards in conjunction with data users, department managers, clients, and other key stakeholders.
  • Gather insight from other architects, analysts, and end users to develop innovative solutions.
  • Ensure that proposed and existing cloud services are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to cloud analysts, engineers, other system architects, and software development teams.
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of cloud system development efforts, and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and flexibility.
  • Track emerging cloud standards including interoperability, security, and performance to realize business objectives.
  • Where applicable, design, develop, and oversee implementation of cloud services and frameworks to facilitate the integration of multiple cloud services.
  • Document the company’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio.
  • Make recommendations for leveraging cloud services where they can have the most value.
  • Review new and existing cloud projects for compliance with standards and architectural plans.
  • Liaise with vendors and service providers to select the products or services that best meet company goals.
  • Direct projects to implement new technologies.
  • Manage cloud services within the data center and ensure efficient data distribution ability and bandwidth requirements.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of services, standards, and management tools.
  • Advise IT team of best practices.
  • Develop plans for data and application integration and work with staff to execute integration across appropriate cloud services.
  • Develop and execute test plans to check service availability performance, report on findings, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure that cloud strategies and architectures comply with applicable regulations.
  • Identify and troubleshot cloud system errors on a continual basis.
  • Act as a leader and advocate of cloud management, including coaching, training, and career development to staff.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of industry related professional experience and education.
  • Certification in [GCP, AWS, AZURE, Certified Cloud Professional (CCP)] or equivalent experience
  • 5 to 10 years of progressive IT experience.
  • Experience as a technical team lead, managing IT projects and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement change.
  • Successful track record of cloud platform deployment.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure servicing.
  • Experience building multi-faceted, scalable cloud systems.
  • Strong knowledge of various web server software [Apache, Tomcat, etc.].
  • Strong knowledge of cloud virtualization technology [VMware , XEN, tec.].
  • Strong understanding of network protocols [HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, DNS].
  • Knowledge of packaging and deployment tools [Ansible, Maven].
  • Expert knowledge of public, private, and hybrid cloud technology [IaaS, PaaS, SaaS].
  • Knowledge in enterprise architecture and SOA architecture.
  • Extensive knowledge on appropriate hardware, operating systems, and network connectivity issues.
  • Expert knowledge of server, user, application, and desktop data visualization.
  • Proven expertise with scripting languages.
  • Experience with Containers (Docker) and a strong working knowledge of Kubernetes

    • Clarify data specifications for key products and services.
    • Assist in negotiations with data technology vendors, drafting contracts and technical schedules, and developing acceptance procedures and criteria.
